It displays time and calendar automatically after you pour some water in it and rock it slightly. 

It is also adjustable by pressing the button.

Water needs to be changed every 2 or 3 months, make sure that the inside of the bottle is totally dry. (You can keep it empty in the normal condition for about a week or dry it in the sun for about 2 to 3 days.)

Moreover, you can even use it as a vase by planting flowers in the bottle.
